Our Philosophy

Picture
As your child’s first teachers, we support the philosophy that “play is the work of childhood.”  As they play, our children become enthusiastic and engaged learners. We encourage our children to grow to their fullest potential by providing developmentally appropriate play experiences which support the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of each child. Children will experience a blend of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities.  Our classroom atmosphere is warm, nurturing and child-centered. Each child has the opportunity to learn at their own pace.  We embrace each child’s unique personality and learning style and strive to design a curriculum that will meet their individual needs.  We support Emergent Curriculum, in which the spontaneous and immediate interests of a group can drive the curriculum topics in the classroom. These interests are often sparked during open-ended free play.

The founder of the Reggio Emilia Schools in Italy, Loris Malaguzzi, said of Emergent Curriculum, “Once children are helped to perceive themselves as authors or inventors, once they are helped to discover the pleasure of inquiry, their motivation and interest explode.”
